Before I was born, my grandfather from my mother's side had colon cancer. The doctors wanted to operate and provide the conventional treatment for cancer. He refused all those methods and decided to use a natural approach and moved to a Clinic in Mexico for a while. He went through a raw food diet, mud baths, saunas and changed his whole regimen.
Thankfully, this treatment worked, he went on remission and he's still with us today. Because of this health scare with my grandfather, my parents used natural remedies in our home every-time we got sick with the flu or a virus.
Later on, in my prime years of youth, I had an accident in which I got second and third degrees burns in approximately 50% of my body. At only 15 years old, my life changed completely. As a result of my injuries and more than 175 procedures, my skin is different from before. There's a lot of scar tissue, my skin is sensitive, dry, cracks and bleeds easily, and lacks elasticity in the areas where I have skin grafts.
Year after year, I've tried plenty of products hoping they would help me with my skin coloration, quench the dryness and improve the appearance of the scars. I spent thousands of dollars each year to end up with no results. I would try every product I was recommended to, top brands, new creams and lotions from infomercials and more. Unfortunately, all those products never worked for longer than a week or two, and I ended up wasting products and money. Sadly, I would end up with rashes, darkening on my scars instead of improving the appearance of it or experienced other side effects. It was beyond frustrating!
One day, my ex-husband got tired of seeing me filling the bathroom cabinet with products and spending money on useless products. He encouraged me to make my own products using the knowledge I have with natural remedies. Immediately I began doing research on plants, essential oils, herbs and started mixing oils in my kitchen. Luckily I had amazing results.
In 2010 my father was laid off his contract and was unemployed, at his age is not easy to find a new job. They decided to sell their boat and invest that money in creating a family business. Both my parents and I got certified as artisans, right away we began brainstorming about our needs, and those things that affect our healths without us noticing like insomnia and stress. If we have a certain need, we believe there might be others with the same or very similar.
Once my mom "nailed it" with our brand's name KOMOKOCO, which is a made up word from a phrase commonly used by our elderly; "estoy como coco", meaning "I'm strong and healthy". I grew up listening to my grandfather use that expression since he went on remission. My grandfather's blessing of good health has been our inspiration in combination with my accident.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to create all these recipes myself. Each product has been inspired on different needs that either a family member, close friend or myself included have experienced after my accident, which is why, every product has a special story behind it.
This may sound odd or even crazy, but I'm thankful to have gone through so many challenges since my early days in life. All these experiences have allowed me to grow in a very special way, it has made me gain the knowledge, motivation and inspiration I need to create these natural remedies that will bring wellness and relief into your homes.
Every product is handmade with lots of love. Believe me, there's a piece of my heart in each and every one of them.
